BUYER GUIDE / KEYBOARDS

How to source a keyboard your customers can use.

Compare keyboard layouts, legends, switches, connection modes and sample checks before requesting an OEM or private-label quotation.

Define the layout before choosing a model

Start with the users, devices and tasks the keyboard needs to support. Ask whether a number pad, dedicated function row or compact desk footprint matters most. Then request a layout drawing and a photograph of the exact version. A key count alone does not identify the position or size of every key.

For each destination, specify the key legends, language and physical layout separately. Buyers serving several countries should list the required versions and quantities rather than ask for one generic “international” keyboard.

For a full-size platform with a dedicated numeric keypad, review MK700 full-size mechanical keyboard. Request the layout drawing, language legends and selected connection configuration rather than inferring them from the model name.

For a compact magnetic direction with carry-strap styling, review MK660. Confirm its physical layout and actual connection modes before comparing it with a full-size or wired-only platform.

A USB-C connector describes the connection hardware, not every supported protocol or feature. Ask separately whether the supplied cable carries keyboard data, charges a battery, or both. Record the actual operating modes rather than infer them from a connector photograph.

Evaluate magnetic and conventional switch options

Use separate sample records for different switch platforms. For a magnetic-switch proposal, ask how actuation and reset settings are adjusted, what software is needed, and which settings apply to the quoted model. For conventional mechanical options, ask the supplier to identify the switch variant and any compatible replacement options in writing.

If polling rate or response figures appear in artwork, ask for the setting, connection mode and test conditions behind them. Treat a reporting interval as a separate item from an observed complete input response. Keep confirmed values and open questions in different columns.

For a wired magnetic direction, compare MK680 magnetic gaming keyboard and its configuration checklist. Confirm the switch part number, firmware and conditions behind the preliminary performance figures.

For compact mechanical layouts, compare MK663-ME and MK664 using their 82-key and 65-key drawings. Record the full model suffix, switch and connection configuration before approving regional legends.

Approve the actual version

  1. Record the model, layout, connection mode and firmware supplied.
  2. Check every key, required shortcut, mode change and lighting control.
  3. Compare legends, keycap finish, logo and accessories with the brief.
  4. Record software behavior on the intended operating systems.
  5. List unresolved differences before approving the production reference.

Use the sample approval record to connect each finding with a requested correction. Keep photos of the approved layout and label the retained sample.

Start a focused keyboard inquiry

Browse the keyboard sourcing category and compare available model pages. MK662 is one magnetic keyboard platform to discuss; request the exact switch, layout and operating configuration for the version you want quoted. The category includes other platforms, so shortlist by requirements rather than appearance alone.

Send the model shortlist, destination, layout drawing, connection needs, first-order quantity and branding request using the RFQ checklist.

Practical questions

Can I select a keyboard using only a key count?

Request a layout drawing as well. Specify the key positions, language legends and shortcuts required by your users.

Is the same model name enough for sample approval?

Record the quoted configuration, firmware, artwork revision and sample reference. Ask the supplier to identify version differences.
